Link-Belt’s Master Technician Training Program (MTTP) was originally created in 1983 to provide comprehensive service training for distributor technicians, but has since been expanded to include Link-Belt crane customers. Over 1,100 technicians have enrolled since the program’s inception, with over 250 technicians completing the program coursework and earning a plaque.

The training consists of three consecutive phases, each designed to match course material with the experience and skill sets of field technicians:

Phase I

The first “basic” phase evaluates the technician’s basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical components and power trains that is required for specific training on Link-Belt crane models.

This self-paced program takes place at the distributor’s locale and features a set of “Basic Books” that cover the four key areas.  Once a self-administered basic examination is successfully completed, the technician can enroll in Phase II Training.  A Phase I patch and certificate are awarded upon completion of this phase.

Phase II

Phase II takes the technician through all of the different models of Link-Belt cranes addressing the proper lubrication, maintenance, operation, repair and troubleshooting procedures. The training is conducted at the factory in the form of one-week training sessions or at the distributor location, conducted by the District Service Representative (DSR.) Separate classes are conducted for HYLAB lattice cranes and telescopic cranes.

A Phase II exam must be completed before enrollment in Phase III. A patch and a jacket are awarded to all technicians who complete Phase II training.

Phase III

Phase III trains the technician on advanced systems, troubleshooting and component rebuilding. This training is conducted at the factory and requires successful completion of a Phase II exam prior to enrollment. Technicians receive a plaque upon completion of this final training phase.

The MTTP training requires a one-time $50.00 enrollment fee and can be started any time by contacting your local distributor. For more details on the Master Technician Training Program, contact Bob Bellman.
